I have been a birth educator and doula since 1996, originally certifying through International Childbirth Education Association and Doulas of North America. I received my training in HypnoBirthing® in 2001 and am certified by the HypnoBirthing Institute. I am the founder of Utah Friends of Midwives (a consumer group of over 200 members working to promote the Midwives Model of Care). In 2004, I became a Certified Professional Midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives. I am licensed by the state of Utah.

My Philosophy of Practice

Giving birth is a normal, healthy aspect of a woman’s life cycle which should be celebrated.

Parents have the right to be informed about all options, and are responsible for making the best choices for their family.

Childbirth is an intimate process meant to be guided by the mother.

Woman-centered care, including childbirth education & skilled labor support, should be readily available to all women.

Women are more satisfied with their birthing experiences when they are active participants in making decisions for their own care.

Because of these beliefs, I strive to:

provide services that are client-oriented. Your prenatal care, birth experience, and postpartum are designed to help you have the experience you will cherish for a life time.

help women feel trusting of their bodies and the process of birth.

create an understanding of birth as a significant life event. Prenatal visits are not just routine "check-ups," but a time to prepare for your baby’s birth.

teach couples practical, hands-on labor support skills before labor begins. During your last trimester, we focus on labor-coping and labor-enhancing techniques.

help each woman find her own strengths and potential.
