The Midwife:

Tanya Walker Parsons, CPM

I am a Nationally Certified Professional Midwife.  I am the proud mother of 3 children, 2 of which were born at home, with the help of midwives.  My personal journey with birth began in 1994 when I gave birth to my son, in a hospital, with many interventions that left me visually blind for days--unable to see my baby.  I then began studying the role of midwifery in pregnancy and birth.  I was trained by the traditional model of apprenticeship and worked clinically with several different Oregon midwives.  I attended many midwifery related workshops, study groups and conferences to facilitate my education.  I am certified in both adult and neonatal resuscitation.  I took a full year of credited Herbalism and have continued to work with Herbal medicine since.

Philosophy:

Nature's Way Midwifery completely trusts in the ability of women to birth their babies naturally.  We view pregnancy and birth as natural, normal processes.  Our goal is to support women and their families in bringing life into this world as gently as possible.  When woman are allowed to birth in a space where they feel loved and safe, they will most always proceed without the need for intervention.  Lastly, when women are given the space to birth naturally, the bond that is created in love and gentleness is one that will last a lifetime.

Testimonials:
"It was important to me that we find a practitioner who was both highly skilled and intuitive.  Tanya offers both a wealth of information as well as an ability to anticipate the needs of her clients.  I enjoyed all of the prenatal care she provided; it was very personalized.  Tanya has a quiet confidence that helped to give me more confidence in my body's innate ability to give birth.  During the birth itself, even during peak pain and moments of self doubting, Tanya kept reminding me that all was well.  I really appreciate her ability to give information and support when I needed it, and quiet and calm when I did not.  My homebirth was the most inspiring and empowering experience in my life, and I am eternally grateful that my daughter was able to begin her life in such a safe, respectful, gentle way.  She was born in a water tub at home with her eyes wide open, staring at her father who caught her."
--Dr. Rachel Meredith ND L.Ac

"Having baby with Tanya was amazing.  During my pregnancy her care was positive and thorough.  She was available anytime with knowledgeable and loving support.  During the birth of our son, Tanya was grounded and intuitive.  Her faith in the natural process of birth and her belief in my ability gave me the strength and courage to bring my baby into this world--and for that I am forever grateful.  I had so many questions and concerns after the birth of our child.  Tanya was there every step of the way and with her help I gracefully blossomed into motherhood.  Thank you tanya!  We love you!"
--Chelsea Phillips L.Ac & Dr. Joshua Phillips ND

"When we found Tanya, we knew she would be the one to take us through the birth process.  Tanya answered each one of our questions with an educated confidence that reassured us both..  Our needs were met again and again as she sat with me each appointment creating a connection I knew I would desire in labor.  She was there through our fears and our joys and has continued to be available since the birth of our baby.  We felt confident in her.  Our birth was beautiful and Tanya was great.  She guided my husband as he caught our baby girl.  Our baby was delivered at home with the help of Tanya and because of her belief coupled with our own that birth is a natural process and that women are capable of birthing their babies without intervention, our daughter was brought into this world gently, into the loving atmosphere of our home."
--The Grays

"I love you for your willingness, your strength, your belief in birth & your ability to hold the space in time for all of us women to come into our own."
